On July 25-26, 2024, the University of Law, Hue University hosted the 4th International Conference on Asian Legal History. This significant event was co-organized by the University of Law, Hue University, the Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford, UK, and the Faculty of Law at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. 

The conference brought together a diverse, interdisciplinary group of scholars, researchers and graduate students from various countries, including the UK, China, Japan, India, and Singapore, along with representatives from law schools across Vietnam.

Attendees from the University of Law,t Hue University included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Luong, Party Secretary and Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Phuong, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice-Rector; and Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, Chairman of the University Council. The event also saw participation from heads, deputy heads of various affiliated units, and the entire lecturers and staff of the Hue University of Law.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Luong emphasized the University's commitment to international cooperation in legal education and research as the President of Vietnam Law School Network. He highlighted the importance of such international forums for fostering collaboration and advancing scientific knowledge.

“The convergence of many renowned researchers, managers, and speakers from prestigious universities worldwide at this conference provides a valuable opportunity for sharing information and experiences, and for initiating new collaborations that will yield significant scientific value”, noted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Luong. He stressed that the conference would facilitate many meaningful scientific exchanges and debates, contributing significantly to future research and education in Asian legal history.

The conference received 81 papers from researchers hailing from various countries and regions, reflecting the sustained interest in legal history in general, and Asian legal history in particular. The evolving issues in this field necessitate continuous research to elucidate not only the legal perspectives but also the cultural, historical, traditional, and political contexts of each period and nation, making the research ever more intriguing and meaningful.

The conference was meticulously structured into 10 sessions, with 8 thematic group sessions and 2 plenary sessions. Topics discussed included: Colonial and Post-Colonial Law in Asia; Constitutional and Public Law in Asia; Development of Civil Law in Vietnam; Asian Constitutional Law; Private Law in Asia; Asian Approaches to International Law; and the Development of Criminal Law in Vietnam.

After two days of intensive discussions and exchanges, the 4th International Conference on "Asian Legal History" concluded successfully, marking another milestone in international academic collaboration and research. This event not only fostered significant academic dialogue but also paved the way for future collaborative endeavors in the field of legal history.
